1912:  Type 1 - Tall 1" legend, small 2" diameter seal               1 -  5000

1927:  3-digits have 0 0 0 format; 131 - 157 have middle digit centered,

       231 - 946 have middle digit slightly left of center.

       Type 1 - Gold (defective batch) 3, 157, 367, 2-485, 4-376

       Type 2 - Orange 22-200, 25-257, 107-716, 111-256

 

1929:  1-4-digits have more space between "MAINE" and "1929" than 5-6-digits.

1932:  1-4-digits have less space between "MAINE" and "1932" than 5-6-digits.

1933:  1-4-digits and 6-digits have less space between "MAINE" and "1933" than 5-digits.

1934-35:  Legend off-center on double-letter series only.

1935:  Single letters 3" tall, double letters 2 1/4" tall.

 

1938:  Type 1 - Short 7 3/8" slogan       1 -  44-000

       Type 2 - Long 8" slogan       50-412 - 161-414   (111,003 P)

 

1939-41:  1-4-digits have short 7 3/8" slogan, not long 8" slogan.

1940:  #43-86 has the hyphen moved on purpose for Brig. Gen. Albert Greenlaw,

       for 43rd Regiment of the 86th Brigade of the National Guard.

 

1942:  Type 1 - Short 7 3/8" slogan       1 -  74-803

       Type 2 - Long 8" slogan       75-930 - 176-442   (100,513 P)

 

1944:     1-5-digits light steel, 6-digits heavy steel.

1948-55:  1-4-digits have short 7 3/8" slogan, not long 8" slogan.

1950-on:  4-digits have no hyphen.

1955 TAB:  Late issues glossy dark blue, not beaded medium blue.

1961:  Error, tab slots at lower left 457-076.
