MANITOBA

Motorcycles were included in the first provincial registration law of 1908, but it appears that no special provision was made for smaller plates.  None were listed in registration figures until the April 1, 1910, to April 1, 1911, year when 55 were registered, probably in the same numeric series with passenger plates.

When province-issued plates began in 1911, motorcycles received only an oval seal identical to passenger seals.  264 motorcycles were registered in 1911.  While passenger plates superceded seals in the spring of 1911, it is unknown whether motorcycle plates were issued, and if so, what they looked like.  An unidentified series of white-on-black 1911 full-size plates with an "L" suffix is known.  For details on the controversy surrounding this year, please see the Manitoba Pre-state State page.  Province-issued pairs of motorcycle plates began in 1912, with the highest known plate being #424.  They are small in size, in the same colors as passenger plates.
