Nebraska: PrestateCycle

NEBRASKA

Motorcycles were included in the first registration law in 1905 and were assigned numbers out of the ordinary passenger series.  No specific plate requirements were mentioned for motorcycles throughout the pre-state era of 1905-15, so plates used on motorcycles would be indistinguishable from automobile plates unless an accompanying registration certificate or a directory has survived.

State-issued motorcycle plates began in 1915 at the same time as the passenger issue.  The first order of plates contained numbers 1 to 700.  New numbers were assigned sequentially to motorcycle owners, unlike passenger plates which were assigned the same pre-state numbers again.  The highest 1915 motorcycle plate known is #1417, twice as high as the original order.
