MARYLAND

Motorcycles were specifically excluded from both the 1904 and 1906 state registration laws.  We also know of no city ordinances in the state requiring the registration of motorcycles during the 1904-10 period.  The 1910 state law, effective on July 1, 1910, was the first to include registration of motorcycles and motorcycle dealers, and required single rear state-issued motorcycle plates.  No 1910 plates are known (although 500 were ordered), but 1911 motorcycle plates up to #989 are known.  The 1910 plates were reported as being flat, a situation corrected with the curved-top-to-bottom 1911 series.
