State motorcycle registration began in 1912 at the same time as automobile registration, with a specially marked 1912-13 disc. It is not certain if motorcycles were numbered in a separate series or issued numbers out of the passenger series.
State-issued motorcycle plates began in 1914, just like passenger. There were 742 motorcycles registered in 1914, yet the highest 1914 motorcycle plate known is #948. Since this plate is unissued, it is probably part of leftover stock from an order of perhaps 999 plates. The 1914 disc also carried the words "MOTOR CYCLE".
