OFFICIAL BUSINESS ONLY
Began 1970. Previously issued State Property plates.
Hope Star, 9/25/1970: "LITTLE ROCK (AP) - State Revenue Commissioner
A. B. 'Bud' Hervey said Wednesday the state had received 4,000 special
license plates for use on state-owned vehicles. The Revenue Department
ordered the plates as a result of a controversy last year over travel
expenses of state employees. A special tag, which will enable the
public to clearly identify a state vehicle, is one of the steps taken
to enforce travel regulations. Hervery said the plates would be placed
on the front and rear of all vehicles that are purchased under the
state purchasing law. The only exception is State Police vehicles."

type replaced State Property in 1970 due to a desire to have a red
background, a new legend, and front plates. This is the only type to
be issued in pairs.
