Hawaii began territorial registration in 1912 and territory-issued plates in 1922.  Hawaii became the 50th state on August 21, 1959.  The first state issue in 1961 changed the slogan from "ALOHA" to "ALOHA STATE".  The current issue of plates started in 1990.
