Motorcycle registration in the Territory began in 1914 at the same time as motor vehicle registration.  Section 10 of the 1914 law states that "motor cycles, in lieu of displaying the number plates hereinbefore required, shall have attached to the rear mud guard of such motor cycles the registration number thereof in figures of not less than three inches in height and...there shall be at all times a marked contrast between the colour of the number plates and that of the numerals...".  This places motorcycle plates in the pre-provincial era!

The earliest known motorcycle plate is a 1926 #2.  It is believed that motorcycle plates began in 1924 because that is the year passenger plate numbers shifted to start at #100 rather than at #1.  This may have been done to accommodate motorcycle plates, which might have taken over numbers from #1 to 99.
