Weight classes added 1935-53. 1935 continued the 1921-34 tonnage
system. 1936-37 used new ton-mile tax system. Another law passed in
1937 repealed the ton-mile tax but began a new fee structure based on
unladen weight. Since this law took effect 6/1/1937, many truckers
reregistered to avoid paying the quarterly ton-mile tax. Accordingly,
both types of 1937 plates remained valid after June 1.
