MICHIGAN

The earliest ordinance requiring motorcycles to register was passed in Grand Rapids in 1900, which included all motor vehicles, but according to a May 25, 1905, Grand Rapids Herald news article, none ever registered, though 40 were estimated to be in the city!

 

The first state law in 1905 required motorcycles to register, but they were issued normal series passenger numbers from 1905 through 1909, so there would be almost no way to discern them.  State-issued motorcycle plates began singly in 1910 at the same time as passenger plates.  The highest known 1910 motorcycle and motorcycle dealer plates are as follows:  #1059, #15 M.
