The oldest known motorcycle plates are New Orleans issues from 1913 and 1914.  State registration of motorcycles began in 1915 at the same time as all motor vehicles, and 445 were registered that year.  But the law made no provision for any specific plates less than 6" x 15", the automobile plate size, nor made any distinct mention of how motorcycle numbers were to be displayed.  Since no 1915 motorcycle plates are known, it is possible that motorcycles merely used passenger plates at first.  500 motorcycle plates were ordered for 1916.  The earliest known motorcycle plate is a 1922 #2665.
