IOWA

Motorcycle registration began in 1904 at the same time as state automobile registration, but passenger numbers were merely issued, meaning there is no identifiable distinction between plates used on the two types of vehicles from 1904 to 1911.  Motorcycle plates began in 1911 at the same time as state-issued passenger plates, and the highest known 1911 motorcycle plate is #757.  Although only 1,000 pairs of 1911 plates were ordered, the first 2,000 numbers were set aside for the motorcycle category.
