"Outboard Motor Licenses Required But Few Apply"
"JEFFERSON CITY, June 17 - The State Department has a supply of
license plates and forms for registration of outboard motors, as
required by an act passed in 1945, but virtually no applicants.
Since the act became effective on June 19, 1945, under an
emergency clause, only 76 [sic] outboard motors have been
registered in Missouri. Sixty-eight of them are state-owned
motors used by the Highway Patrol and the State Conservation
Department, and the other 10 are privately owned...The act
requires registration of such motors with the Department of
Revenue for a $2 fee..."
Springfield Leader and Press, 7/8/1947:

"County Prosecutor Wayne Walker has received what he believes to
be the first outboard motor license plate issued to a Greene
