ONTARIO

It is not certain when provincial motorcycle registration began, although it's likely that it was in 1903 at the same time as other motor vehicle registration.  If so, it is probable that normal passenger plates were also issued to motorcycles.

Separate motorcycle registrations and plates seem to have been first issued and kept track of in 1907, with 25 registered as of April 30, 1907.  Plates were similar to passenger plates but had a rubber front and leather back held together by a metal rim.  The highest motorcycle number issued as of April 30, 1910, was #275, and the highest known motorcycle plate is #413.

Smaller versions of porcelain-enameled metal plates were issued in 1911, with the highest such 1911 motorcycle plate known being #854.  All motorcycle plates were required as single plates only for the back of the machine from 1906 through 1911.
