MISSOURI
It is not clear exactly when motorcycles began to be registered in Missouri. The first state law of 1903 did not include motorcycles, but it is known from old photographs that the large 1904 city auto plates issued by St. Louis were also used on motorcycles. Missouri's 1907 state registration law did include motorcycles which were merely issued numbers from the passenger series, with no difference in display or appearance. Even in 1911 and 1912, large passenger plates were issued to motorcycles.
1913 House Bill 79, passed on January 31, 1913, and effective immediately, made several amendments to the 1911 law, among them the specific mention of smaller plates designed for motorcycles. 1913 is the first issue for motorcycle plates, although none are known today. Motorcycle plate #441 was mentioned in a Moberly Daily Monitor accident report on May 8, 1913. The earliest known motorcycle plate is a 1914 #372.
