Connecticut began automobile registration in 1903 and state-issued plates in 1905. In the early years, Connecticut cars were apparently not expected to travel as far away as Colorado or California, as all 1905-13 plates carried merely the initial letter "C". The 1905/09 and 1910 through 1913 issues were undated, but in differing colors. Connecticut pioneered the use of semi-permanent plates in the modern era in 1937, and fully reflectorized plates in 1948. The current issue of plates started in the last week of 1999.
